Everything is so magical, exactly the way it is in fairyland. Leila, Katherine Mansfield's main character in the short story, "Her First Ball", is absolutely breath-taken at every sight and sound at the ball. In the tragedy King Lear, the term blindness has an entirely different meaning. It is possible it means she kissed the men and make them cry because when she moves the men follow her, and when she kissed the guys get emotional. The first stanza states that she hurt the feeling of her husband by cheating on him with the king. Furthermore, in the poem it said the king will ride and It is possible that the sun cheats on her husband with the king because she will ride( go out) with the king. Nor hours, days, months, which are the rags of time, I think it doesnt matter what time, she will always hurt him. The reason why is because it doesnt matter what time, she will always hurt his feeling. She cheats and her husband is really hurt in the first stanza.

To continue, the first stanza opens the idea that she cheats, the second stanza explains his love for her. The first line is Thy beams, so reverend and strong. It is possible in that first line he is expressing his affections for her. He explains that his love for her is strong. Then, after that, he asks her why she did cheat on him by saying Why shouldst thou think? The next few lines in the poem are about how her love blinds him every time he sees her because her beauty is strong and bright. The next three lines in the poem are how he lays with her now, but she is cheating on him with the king. Line 1 mentions the king and how she sees saw him . At the end

of the second stanza, he cannot believe how he is laying with her because she has cheated on him with the king. His feelings are hurt, and he feels he has nothing to live for.

He remains sad because he gives up on her and life and he wants to die in the dark alone without her.

The first of Plato's four basic premises is that he believed that there are two worlds. The super sensible world, which contains the forms and ideas (according to Plato-Knowledge never changes) is what your soul is before you are born. Before your born into the body your soul is in the super sensible world but when you are born into the body you forget all the knowledge in your soul. Unlike Plato, Aristotle believed that the world of the sensible is the real world. He believed that change is reality. The first of his four causes of change is material. He suggests that you ask; what is it that changes? The second cause is forma. The question here is; what dose it change to? The third cause is efficiency, which asks; what makes it change? The final cause asks, why dose it change? He suggests that man must ask themselves these questions in order to find their reality. Aristotle suggests that there are two types of changes. The first being the unnatural, which is something induced by and outside agent for example a tree because of it's wood is turned into a piece of furniture. The second is the natural, which contains no external agent, for example an acorn growing on a tree. He believed that matter remains the same and the form changes. The form comes before the matter, unlike Plato that suggested that forms and ideas never changed.

Plato's ethics include the reasoning that the rational soul is the driver of your life. The rational soul thinks remembers, believes and is the leader of the other two parts, which are the spirited and the passionate. The spirited makes a person cowardly, rash and harsh. These are acts of weakness. The passionate includes desires, which by nature is a weakness. He suggests that all humans have these three parts in the soul but only one dominates. He concludes that only with reason do you find the idea of "the good".

Aristotle disagrees with Plato's ethics. He believed that man must do "the good" instead of trying to find it. He believed that the function of a man is to seek happiness. He concludes that the soul is made up of two parts, the Rational and the Irrational. The rational soul contains virtue, the Golden Mean, which suggest that humans must know when to feel on which occasion. The irrational soul contains two forces, love and hate a vice (a vice is a defect or excess). Like Plato, Aristotle believed the driver of the soul should be the rational part of the soul.

Both philosophers had strong beliefs about the world and how people should live in it, however I tend to agree with Aristotle. I believe that change is everywhere and is the reality of man. I agree with Aristotle when he suggests that all men desire to know. It's the wisdom that we as human's desire that makes us succeed in life and it's trials and tribulations.

In Aristotle's ethics he suggest that man seeks knowledge. I think that man as a defense against the world desires to know all they can in order to live a better life. It's that desire that leads humans to do "the good" the Aristotle talks about in this ethics. I think that as men as a whole try to live their lives rationally although that facts that the human race is not perfect, some of us act irrational on occasion. The irrational world does contain two very large temptations, which can cause some havoc but for the most part I try to stay away from being irrational.

In conclusion Plato and Aristotle both had some very radical ideas on how humans should live their lives. Both philosophies have strong ideas and maybe if we were living in their time it would have been easy to adapt to these ideas but in this day and age humans tend to have a mind that does not do well with radical ideas such as these. It would be interesting to see what these two philosopher would say if alive in today's ever changing world. How would the ideas of the rational and the irrational souls change? Or would they change at all?

John Berger's arguments about Hal's painting of the Regents in The Way to Seeing are that of an objective and deliberately simple man. Many details are partially correct, but in his painstaking quest to stay objective Berger misses out on some of the bigger issues in Hal's painting.

Berger does not simply give us his interpretation of the Regents paintings by Hal. Instead, he quotes a book that is the authoritative work on Hal at the time of Berger's essay and tears it to shreds in an attempt to illustrate mystification and its effects on art. The first quote that Berger displays is one acclaiming the paintings ‘finer points.' He argues that the use of glittering adjectives describing the composition ("harmonious fusion," "unforgettable contrast," and "a peak of breadth and strength") transfer way too much attention to it. Berger admits that it is "reasonable to consider a paintings composition" but quickly states that it had been taken too far, that the critic portrayed it "as though it were itself in emotional charge of the painting." However important, Hal quite clearly did not intend for composition to be in charge of this piece. The details and facial expressions on the men and women are so articulate, they are obviously more of a focal point than the staunch dark background.

The only evidence that exists that shows the nature of the relationship between Hal and the Regents is the painting itself. Therefore, the only way we can interpret the painting is that it is, in Bergers words "a group of men and a group of women as seen by another man, the painter." This is the only conclusion that we can come to based on fact. Anything else is pure speculation. Berger seems to argue that this is how we should perceive the painting. This is inferred by Berger's syntax when he states "The art historian fears such direct judgment…" Berger's thought is indeed correct. However, by striving to be direct, Berger forgets one of his own lessons. Later in the passage, Berger states that "When a painting is reproduced by a film camera it inevitably becomes material for the film maker's argument. A film which reproduces images of a painting leads the spectator, through the painting, to the film makers own conclusions." So when Hal ‘reproduces' the original scene of the Regents, wouldn't it be ‘inevitable' that the painting would lead us to ‘his own ‘conclusions' about the men and women he portrayed? And if that is true, then Berger's art is great to be used as documentary evidence is incorrect. When looking at the Regents we can assume we are viewing Hal's personal ‘argument' about each and every Regent, whether he meant to display it or not. The same is true with every painting we have ever viewed, and many of them are mystery's like the Regents. This means that we don't know exactly how blurred the lens we are viewing the world through actually is, and therefore we cannot assume anything that we perceive in paintings is anywhere close to the actual situation we believe is begin depicted.

Normally, when this painting is discussed, it is broken down into many different aspects. For example the aforementioned critic commented "[the women] are linked by a firm and rhythmical arrangement and the subdued diagonal pattern formed by their heads and hands." Later the same critic states "…the penetrating characteristics almost seduce us into believing that we know the personality traits and even the habits of the men and women portrayed." Berger believes that these statements define mysticism. The ‘diagonal pattern' formed by the women's heads is used by no means to ‘link them.' It is more than likely a simple ascetic arrangement. Berger feels very strongly about this so called ‘seduction.' "What is this "seduction" he writes of? It is nothing less than the painting working upon us." So he feels that the seduction is an individual feeling derived from the painting appealing to your senses. The reason we feel this seduction is that the facial expressions displayed on the Regents are identical to facial expressions we see on people's faces everyday. Berger sums it by saying "It is this---not the painter's skill as a "seducer"---which convinces us that we can know the people portrayed."

Another popular argument about Hal's Regents is that the Regent in a tipped hat and unfocused eyes is drunk at the time of the painting. The art critic cited before does not believe this is the case. Berger mocks him, stating how the critic "argues that it was a fashion at the time to wear hats on the side of the head. True, having many reproductions of a painting takes power away from the original painting, but the overall popularity and influence of the painting spreads to the very corners of the world. Webster's dictionary defines power as "physical or mental strength or energy; influence; control." In this sense of the word, reproduction and distribution of paintings infinitely increases their "power."

Berger believes that a painting is not meant to be viewed at two different places at the same time. How can we as a culture really get to understand a masterpiece painting unless it is viewed from countless different angles and---dare I say---countless different locations and against a variety of backgrounds? Before after and in between anything? With a thousand captions and ten thousand different collage's various a teenager's walls. There is no set meaning for art, that is what defines it as great.

Anyway I find it hard to watch a team I've been supporting for years fading away into the mist.

All started to go wrong after the departure of David O Leary that's my personal opinion anyway. He was a good manager and he brought a lot of success to the club. European Success was what he brought and that was what a club like us needed, put on us the map as they say.

Then Dacourt went out on loan to Roma; now he was world class especially during the European campaign. He dominated the midfield and brought a lot of strength to the side. Last but not least Lee Bowyer, he's a funny little character, great player but he ruins it by his actions on and off the pitch.

Not that I cared at the time but now he's left to play for West Ham, I have no guilt in saying that Lee is a thug himself and the stamping on a players head a few months back proved to me what kind of a person he really is. Every other Leeds fan and myself alike knew that he did it. But Leeds United backed him and the others all the way and he repaid us by asking for a transfer to Liverpool and when they wouldn't give him the money he wanted, he soon went running back.

In the part of "the facts", authors quote Judge Jackson's "three facts" to help audiences understand how Microsoft monopolies the software market and why it has harmed consumers. Next, in the part of "the law", they introduce Judge Jackson's conclusion of the law and damn to Microsoft's conduct. People can not use computers without Windows, without Microsoft. So, readers should very familiar with this topic and interest in it. In addition, authors provide some classical cases that Microsoft uses their monopoly power threats other companies, such as Netscape, Intel, IBM, Compaq etc., which are all famous companies in the IT realm and act very important roles in our everyday life. Reader would be astonished if they heard about these giant companies all use to be threatened by Microsoft. Also these examples will make the audiences think more about Microsoft monopoly.

The other positive characteristic is that the article is well organized. In the article, authors offer a detailed explanation and examples for each sub topic, which is divided distinctively, and each section is finished with a short summary. As a consequence, readers can easily follow the article and understand the content.

On the other hand, it is obvious that the article has some negative characteristics. The first weakness is that authors use too much reliance on other scholars' opinions. By statistics, authors use Judge Jackson's opinions more than twenty times and they have not used anyone else's opinion even once. Jackson, who was the Judge in charge of the Microsoft anti-trust case but had been rejected by the US government duo to he had bias opinions to Microsoft. As a result, it will make their viewpoints questionable and lead their article not convincing enough.

The second negative characteristic is that authors have a bias against Microsoft. In the article authors describe Microsoft as a big monster, times and times repeat the negative effects of Microsoft monopoly, but they never mentioned the positive side of it. In fact, Microsoft has brought us not only good products, but also the standardization and the compatibility. "Technology needs leaders to define a market so that others can invest." (Dick Satran 000) Choosing the operating system which is the market leader makes it cause your data and programs compatible with other users. For example, consumers using Windows will never worried about the "Word" files in their computers can not be read in others computers. Another benefit is that a larger installed base means there will be many more application programs available for that system. Authors have not mentioned these facts in their article; obviously, they have a bias opinion to Microsoft.

The final negative characteristic in this article is lack of evidences. In their article, authors assert that, compare with AT&T, Microsoft is much easier to separate, because the employees work for Microsoft is mostly young, mobile and well-off (see "The Remedy" part). In fact, there is no evidence or statistic shows the employees in Microsoft are younger, more mobile or more well-off than the employees in AT&T. In addition, we can not find the relationship between the employees structure and how easy the company be divided. It will confuse the readers if authors do not explain this point.

In conclusion, as can be seen, this article is interesting, thought-provoking and well-organized. However, despite these positive characteristics, authors use too much reliance on other scholars' opinion, have bias against Microsoft and do not provide enough evidences in support of their some viewpoints. It is recommended that more research is needed before definite conclusion. In particular, authors should do their research in a more careful and responsible manner, analyze things in a objective and fair way, especially do not have a bias opinion in their article.

To me, a hero is simply a person who helps a life. I don't feel that helping a life necessarily means saving a life, but somehow affecting a life in a special way. I feel that there are many ways a person can become a hero. In my opinion, there are a couple important factors in leading a heroic life. The first factor is to be able to trust in God in any moment of your life, including struggles, and relying on Him in everything you do. The next factor would be assisting someone in finding their inner strength, and offering hope by giving peaceful words of inspiration. Both of these things can inspire a person to want to lead a more fulfilling life after what they have seen someone else do in their own life.

During this past summer, I read a book written by Lisa Beamer, the wife of -11 hero Todd Beamer. The story reveals what happened on that unfortunate flight of United Flight, as well as touching glimpses of a genuine American hero. Todd Beamer, a husband and a father, was one of the men who tried to fight back aboard Flight before it crashed at the hands of terrorism (Oprah). On September 11, 001, Todd was aboard a flight where three terrorists had taken over the plane. Todd knew that something had to be done. While devising a plan to save these people, Todd came up with the idea to use the Airphone aboard the plane, and the call went to an operator in the Chicago area. Lisa Jefferson, the GTE Airphone operator, remembers these moments while talking on the phone with Todd in courageous final moments

"He told me that a few of them had gotten together, and they were going to jump the guy with the bomb. The last thing I heard Todd say was "Are you ready?"

Then he said, "Okay let's roll"(Oprah).

The operator held on the line for about 15 minutes but Todd never came back to the phone.

An admirable and heroic quality that I see Todd Beamer carried along with him in his life was his faith and his trust in God. I think that what made Todd different from other men who are simply "religious", was not the fact that he was willing to die for his faith; the terrorists did that! Todd was willing to live for his faith. Todd was eager to live out his faith all the way to the end. "Todd built his life on a firm foundation so that when the storm came on September 11th he didn't have to check the blueprints to see if everything he had built his life on was going to stand, he knew"(Beamer 0). In the book written by Lisa Beamer, she describes many instances where Todd had done various things that displayed his trust in God and knowing that he was choosing God's will for his life. This value is something that I strive for in my own life, relying on God, trusting by faith that no matter what will happen, God will be true to his Word. According to Lisa Jefferson, the airphone operator, Todd knew that he was not going to make it through this flight. While on the phone with her, he calmly recited the Lord's prayer and had asked Jesus to help him in this situation. Minutes following, Todd asked Lisa to tell his wife that he loved her and that he would see her again someday. This, to me, sounds like a true hero.

Although Todd was gone, Lisa Beamer, the pregnant wife and mother of their two little boys, had the responsibility of not only breaking the news to her little children, but she also had the task of coping with Todd being gone and raising this family they had created. Through the "Phone call from heaven," as she puts it, Lisa received many encouraging words of advice, and in it she found hope to continue on with her own life, knowing that someday she would see Todd again in heaven. Lisa reveals that "it was a real blessing and encouragement to know that he held on to the other person and the character that he had even in his worst moment"(Oprah). His character, his faith, his love for his family and friends, his integrity; these are a few things that Lisa Beamer will be able to share with her children in the years to come when they ask about their father.

Many Americans, including myself, have been able to see the inspiration that Todd's story has been for this country and throughout the Beamer family. This is a true story we will be able to keep with us for encouragement and hope through the remainder of our lives. Todd's display of faith has given his family and friends the confidence to have that same faith and to go on in the face of such a tragedy and a loss. The poems, ‘London' and ‘Composed upon West Minster bridge', offer differing views on the city of London. Blake paints a picture of a London, which is depressing, lifeless and pessimistic, whereas Wordsworth's London is rather different. He sees it as exciting, beautiful and full of joy and delight.

To begin, Blakes ‘London' is divided into four stanzas, all of equal length, which in itself, gives a strong sense of order and regularity, and also shows the tedious pace of the lives of the people. These four stanzas portray the deprivation and poverty of that era, and Blake paints a picture in the reader's minds of a degenerated and oppressive London, where society lies tormented and depressed.

In the first stanza, Blake's use of iambic metre, and an ‘ABAB rhyme scheme' (‘Street…Flow…Meet…Woe.), iterates how monotonous everyday life in London is, ‘I wonder thro' each chartered street'. The fact that Blake is wondering through London suggests that the city is so tedious, that it has no aims or direction. The reader could construe that Blake is blaming his apathy on the city itself, and that, perhaps it is London's fault that the populace has, ‘Marks of woe'.

The second stanza presents to the reader a strong sense of desperation in society. The repetition of the word, 'Every' may be seen as an aggressive chant, which emphasises how strained the lives of the people are. When Blake describes the, ‘Mind forged manacles..', it is symbolic of the people being trapped in a system and their own lives, of which they cannot escape. It is as if the reader can feel their pain, anguish and bitterness towards the life.

The third and the fourth stanzas also portray the suffering and the deep misery of society, describing ‘The chimney sweepers cry' and ‘Soldiers sigh'. It would be true to say that Blake feels London has no redeeming features, and in particular during the third stanza, where it creates a touch of evil, as it talks of the ‘ Blackening church'. It is a hypocritical and contradictive establishment of its time, which Blake clearly feels strongly about. He uses it, along with lust and poverty, as one of the three main ruins of society.

The fourth stanza bases itself upon prostitution and the vicious cycle in the town. Blake sees marriage as death of the soul, using the juxtaposition of a,'Marriage hearse', to convey his thoughts. It talks of prostitutes bearing a blight upon marriage, bringing a risk of death and diseases, which are continuously passed down, generation by generation.

Oppression has a lot of significance in the poem, ‘ Every cry of every man…Every infants cry of fear…' it is as though Blake wants the reader to hear them, as they have no individuality, and are unseen in society. We, the readers can feel their anguish and struggle through life.

Blake's poem is clearly written about life in the slums of London, while Wordsworth, in his sonnet, ‘Composed upon West Minster bridge', focus's in a more general way, on the majesty and pleasure of London.

In contrast with Blake's poem, Wordsworth's sonnet, sees London as sublime and unique. It is clear to the reader that Wordsworth is enamoured by the city, which was earlier described by Blake as a place of pain and hostility, telling of the, ‘Marks of weakness, marks of woe'.

The sonnet is of a much slower and relaxed pace, which allows the reader to take in London through Wordsworth's eyes, and helps the reader to truly appreciate the majesty and beauty, that was the London of that era.

Wordsworth's use of iambic pentameter, and the ‘ABBA,ABBA,CDCD' rhyme scheme (‘Bear…. Lie…. Sky…Air…. Steep…. Hill…. Deep…. Will.'), helps to convey London's tranquil and detoxicating qualities, which are also reflected by the tone in which Wordsworth has written the poem. It portrays a very unhurried pace of life.

Wordsworths use of personification, declaring,'This city now doth like a garment wear', suggests London's love of the morning and embraces the new day. The city is viewed as polutionless and pure, a place of fleeting beauty, which is described as ‘Glittering' and ‘Bright'. Wordsworth respects the city for it's awe-inspiring buildings, and watches as nature and the city merge in harmony, with eachother. The poet clearly uses this wonderful moment as transient and wants the reader to understand his emphatic feelings of admiration fir it. Again, this is in contrast to Blake's anger towards the city and it's inhabitants.

It would be true to say that in contrast to Blake's poem, Wordsworth sees the people as the centre point of the city, and enjoys to watch man's habitat and natures domain, work harmoniously together stating, ‘Open unto the fields and to the sky'.

The use of exclamation marks (!), portrays Wordsworth's emotions, and helps the reader to realise how in awe of the city he is. It is also used to show his shocked, surprised and pleased reaction, i.e., when he proclaims, ‘A calm so deep', and his surprise at the beauty of London is seen when he directly addresses, ‘Dear God!'.

Wordsworth declares how ‘Dull' anyone would be of ‘Soul', should they merely pass by the city, which in its ‘Majesty', is a ‘Sight so touching'. He is struck by the magnificence and splendour and is clearly passionate about the city he has grown to love.

In conclusion, whereas Blake sees London as a place of doom and despair, sometimes becoming quite arrogant towards the London society and not looking beyond the murky atmosphere of the city. Wordsworth, who usually dislikes urban areas, sees something special and glorious about London, and merges the city with the beauty of the countryside
