Author Zora Neale Hurston uses the setting in the novel in order to give the reader a better perspective of the way the characters live. The setting in this novel begins with a family in a small town next to the "Big Creek". The people that live on that side of the creek don't have the opportunity to go to school. They spend their time harvesting cotton and worrying if they have sufficient food to provide their family. These people are not really ranked in society and are often looked down upon. The novel then progresses to Notasulga, which is on the other side of the creek. The town is much bigger and has industrialization. They have trains and schools were children learn to read and write. There was also a different vibe in Notasulga; the people didn't worry as much. The children would play hide and seek, while the others on the other side picked cotton all day. Here the people are literate and are growing up with more opportunities. Throughout the novel, the reader is given the impression that the people that live on the other side of the creek are of lower income and have greater worries that the others in Notasulga.

Whether the setting is in Notasulga or the other side of the creek, the reader automatically feels the difference both in atmosphere and society by the things the people do and talk about. There was a big change in the main character John Buddy as he migrated from one place to another. Once he arrived at Notasulga he automatically began to go to school and dress differently. When he returned to his original home, his family noticed the change in him right away. He was no longer illiterate and was a very presentable and modest young man. Overall the setting was very crucial throughout the novel, without these different locations to compare, the reader wouldn't know the difference between the two towns and the reasons why people do and live the way they do. There is always somewhere to go to become gain a better living. Zora Neale Hurston did an exemplary job by giving us these two settings in the novel. The setting is the first thing the reader imagines while reading the book, if the setting is inconsistent then the reader gets bored and doesn't fully understand what the characters are doing or why they are where they are.

The line "all men are created equal" is perhaps the most famous line in American history, from one of the most famous documents that made it possible for American history, from The Declaration of Independence.

Today the line refers to anyone in America, including African Americans, Native Americans, and women. Two- hundred years ago, when the Declaration was written, the only people who were treated equal were white men, the ones who wrote it (Thomas Jefferson...) I believe that when Jefferson and his committee wrote the Declaration they meant that all men are created equally better than everyone else.

Everyone thought that the Declaration of Independence included everyone in America, but they saw different after women weren't even given the right to vote. Not being able to vote is like not being able to choose who you marry. Women were not given the right to vote until Elizabeth Cady Stanton wrote the Declaration of Womens Rights and motivated women to start fighting for their rights and in 11 Congress finally gave them the right to vote. Now women were feeling more involved and equal.

There was no effective law on freeing enslaved African Americans until 186. In 186 President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation which declared freedom for enslaved persons in parts of the Confederacy not under control of the Union Army.

Everyone was not treated completely equal until the 100s. Today everyone in the United States has the same rights and the same freedom. The line "all men are created equal" has never before meant what it does today.

Please note that this sample paper on "all men are created equal" What did Jefferson really mean by this because everyone did not get treated equal is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. Although Huck and Jim were different races at a time of extreme prejudice they still befriended one another.

Back in Huck's time the word nigger was very commonly used to describe African American, so this should not be used to show that Huck is not on an equal level with Jim. Huck says "Miss Watson's nigger Jim had a hair ball the size of your fist," in this quote is positively shows that Huck is just referring to Jim; he does not mean any harm by it. Also in this quotation Huck is just again referring to Jim not lowering his status "I took me fifteen minute to humble myself to a nigger." The word nigger is just use in context, most of the time, it is not meant to be demoting at this point in history.

Another thing Huck does that only a true friend would do is he helps Jim escape, and many times passes up and opportunity for a reward for Jim. One example of this is in chapter sixteen when the two men come aboard the raft. Huck stops the men by saying that his family is on the raft with small pox; this immediately scares the men away. This is some thing only a true friend would do, especially since Jim is worth money. In the end Huck also tries to free Jim, his mutual friend, after he is recaptured. If their friend ship had not have been mutual Huck would not have felt the need to free Jim. Even though Jim was already free, Huck was unaware of this making all of his acts committed out of friend ship.

Just by traveling down the river the two, Huck and Jim, become better friends. They make bonds that only being isolated on a raft will allow. This is shown in this quotation, " I took me fifteen minutes before I could go humble myself to a nigger," in this quote Huck is defying what he was brought up to believe and going and apologizing to Jim. This shows that there relationship has grow to the point that Huck no longer thinks of Jim as a lesser, because if Jim was a lesser Huck would not have felt the need to apologize to him. Every day they traveled down the Mississippi their mutual friendship grew.

All of these things show that Huck mutually respected Jim not only as a college but as a friend. Even with the world telling Huck that he was wrong he still befriended Jim. This is a sign of true friendship

If you order your paper from our custom writing service you will receive a perfectly written assignment on Drinking age.. What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. One controversial debate in the United States concerns the legal drinking age. Some believe the drinking age should be reduced from 1,and others believe it should be remain the same. The minimum legal drinking age varies from 0 to 1 around the world.

In my opinion the National Minimum Drinking Age Act should be changed to allow 18 to 1 years olds the ability to purchase and consume alcohol. The legal drinking age sometimes causes more problems than it prevents.

First, it is necessary to question this law. Why is 1 the magical age that makes one intelligent and mature enough to consume alcohol? We all know some people under 1 who can drink responsibly, and some over 1 with no hope of ever drinking responsibly.

Today's teenagers face more responsibility and are treated more like adults than their parents were. This makes the 1 restriction seem out of date. At 18,people are considered adults. If it is legal for 18 years old to drive cars, fly planes ,vote, marry, pay taxes, take out loans and risk their lives in the armed forces then should be legal for them to drink alcohol. Today's legal drinking age is unrealistic.

The bottom line is responsibility. If drinking alcohol in moderation is acceptable, society should teach responsible drinking rather than set an age limit. In our values as parents and educators, we have a responsibility for the socialization of our children, for preparing them for life in the world. We should be brave enough to tell them the truth, that moderate drinking need not lead to abuse; that drinking can be done in an appropriate civilized way without shame and gilt.

I fully believe the drinking age should be lowered because the current age has no real basis. With the focus on education about safe drinking instead of restriction, many problems would be averted. People become responsible by being properly taught, given responsibility, and then held accountable for their actions .So ,programs, society, and families need to start teaching drinking in moderation. Restriction is ridiculous.

Everyone listens to a specific type of music for some distinct reason or another. The reason may be from the environment of the individual in question, a psychological reason, or the sociology

To start with, everyone favors a certain style of music and in some cases the specific style the individual chooses is based on the environment they live in. An example of this would be a single Indian tribe favoring their own music. Indian tribes are usually isolated. This would make everyone in that tribe more likely to listen to their own music and grow to enjoy it. Not only in tribes will see this but just in everyday families too. Another example would be a young girl brought up listening to the Beatles as a child. She becomes an adult and listens to new music. Even though she has found other music that she likes she may in fact still enjoy the Beatles along with the new music she comes across.

Next, psychology has a major role in what kind of music someone likes. Music can stimulate the sensory part of the brain reliving tension or causing it. Different types of music and be applied to different moods. If a single form of music such as rap makes the individual happy they will tend to favor that music when they are in a good mood. The same individual in a bad mood may subject themselves to rock instead of rap to relieve the tension they are feeling.

Last, sociology can also effect what kind of music someone likes. One example would be a teenage boy who is influenced by people in his environment such as his friends. This particular boy is submitted to one certain type of music by his friends more often than any other type. This reason will makes him fond of that distinct music to a certain extent. Another teenage boy may start listening to one specific music group to fit in with his peers. Even if he doesn't like it at first it will more than likely grow on him.

Initially, a person's environment has a big impact on what kind of music they like and can cause dislikes of other music in the future. Psychology can make you tend to listen to music you wouldn't normally listen to due to mood swings. Sociology can cause people to like certain types of music due to peer pressure or just plain friends. In other words, environment, psychology, and sociology all are apart of why you listen to the specific types of music you are enjoying today.

Napoleon Bonaparte was a minor Corsican aristocrat who fought his way up to be Emperor of France. He was a dictator that advanced many of the goals of the Revolution. He represented change in the government and social processes. His motto was to be ruled by him or fight against him. He was well-known for his conquests all over Europe.

Some of the battles he fought and won were Marengo in June 1800 in which he defeated Austria, Austerlitz on December, 1805 in which he defeated the Russian and Austrian armies, Jena-Auerstadt and Friedland on June 14, 1807 in which he defeated the Russian Army in Poland. This led to the signing of the Treaty of Tilsit by Czar Alexander I in 1807. After this, Napoleon controlled the majority of Europe. By 1811, nearly all of Europe except for the Balkans was included in his Grand Empire.

Napoleon had a large family and he often appointed his brothers and sisters, distant relatives and faithful servants to royal positions in the countries he conquered. All of Napoleon's takeovers followed the same pattern. At the beginning, his army would take over the area. Then, he would use his influence on the government to draft a new constitution. Then he would appoint a relative as the ruler to make sure the conquest would be loyal to him. His empire followed his orders and his rules. By 1811 his dream of a unified Europe under his rule was becoming a reality.

The reality of his dream soon came to an end when he was finally defeated in April 1814 and was exiled to Elba. Even though he was not an evil ruler, he was forceful when he took over other countries. Great Britain was the major stumbling block in Napoleon's grand plan of conquering all of Europe and to make it unified. He even fought during his exile to Elba but was eventually defeated one last time.

Napoleon Bonaparte was a fighter from day one, working his way up from French general to Emperor. He fought to the end when he suffered a bloody defeat at Waterloo on June 18, 1815 and was exiled to Saint Helena. He eventually died in 181 but his memory will haunt the French political life forever.

Teenagers usually face a stage in which rebellion against authority is a way of getting through growth. They find themselves in a time in which they are not "too old" or "too young. This brings confusion and authority is part of that confusion. They can drive but still they don't have the liberty of choosing the places, hours and situations in which they get involved. Adolescence is a period when children are developing a separate self and desiring increased independence from their parents authority. During this period, it is important for the parents to balance the use of their authority with cooperation from their adolescents. A few teenagers get through it without much trouble, but the majority does not. This creates a lot of stress and confrontation in a family. The mature adolescents want their parents to maintain authority because it gives them security, while at the same time they want respect for their points of view. For the ones that are in a hard stage of the development of their own being it is hard to cooperate and try to make things easier, not only for them but for the sake of their parents also. In their quest for independent selves, teenagers may reject or be resistant to what they think their parents want them to do. Family events might be fun to them, but they could also make them feel as though they're being held back from their independence.

Maturity, independence and authority are concepts that ca not be define and understood without considering as a whole. A mature person can be more independent and therefore, gain more responsibility and receive less strict authority from a higher authority.

Some teenagers choose a neutral position towards authority. The reason for that is that they are responsible teenagers with parents that do not have to be strict on them since they know that the maturity of their teenagers would guide them, determining what is wrong and what is right. Those parents know that their kids would not do anything that could harm neither them nor their family. Authority is a necessity also. It is necessary because people need discipline, and that is what authority brings. If each person would not have at least one person considered as an authority there would not be a certain discipline. So, authority can be rather defined as a good necessity than, as many teenagers consider, an evil one.

As a young diplomat, torn between love and justice, Hamlet has proven his altruism by choosing to sacrifice his love for Ophelia in turn for retribution of his father's murder. As he enters in the beginning of the scene, a seemingly innocuous Ophelia greets him with respect saying, "How does your honor for this many a day?" Hamlet then answers in humble reply, beginning his wordplay with Ophelia in an affable manner only to be thrown off by her request to return to him love letters he had written to her. At first Hamlet acts as though he puts up an emotional shield, protecting himself from heartache when he denies the letters to be his, but as soon as Ophelia accuses him of untruthful affection by saying he has "prove [n] unkind", he suspects that Polonius is behind Ophelia's behavior. He immediately changes his friendly tone towards her as he banters, "Ha, ha! Are you honest? … Are you fair? " By saying this, he is questioning her virginity as even he knows she is chaste. I see this as a verbal smack in the face, as he feels betrayed of her love. Now suspecting foul play, Hamlet is angered, angered by the corruption of the woman he loved, angered at the heartache he has been doomed to, and angered that Polonius had almost made him out to be a fool. He tells Ophelia that he "loved her not", feeling as though his love for her went unrequited, and asks her, "Where's your father…Let the doors be shut upon him, that he may play the fool nowhere but in's own house." to make known that he is not to be fooled. Hamlet's affection for Ophelia, though seemingly soured in this scene, is nevertheless apparent by his numerous pleas for her innocence as he urges her to, "get [herself] to a nunnery." He feels as though a girl once pure, and still honest at heart is being seduced into the fraudulent scheming of her father, therefore he urges her to make haste to a place where she will be separate from the corrupt ways of the world. Hamlet entered this scene, unaware of the trickery that was at play, still hopeful that Ophelia had love for him, and leaves heartbroken, wishing that no more marriages be made on earth.

Just like every summer there is one day or one event that stands out far amongst the others. It is the day that every one will talk about for days, weeks, months, or even years. From the planning, packing, buds, beaches, and burns; August nd, 00, will be a day that I'll never forget.

Brad Soat, founder of the First Annual Tons of Fun Tubing Extravaganza got a brilliant idea one-day. That idea was to get all of our friends together for a weekend to sit back and relax while still having fun. He put together weekends long trip that involved both camping and tubing.

There was a lot of planning involved it this trip. It took Brad a little over a month to set it up. He had to know the exact number of people that were going so that he could get the correct number of tubes and campsites. Along with all of that he got 10 koozies made and bought thirty cases of beer. The total cost for each person on the trip was thirty dollars.

On August nd, 00, thirty of our close friends met at Walnut Acres, in Monticello, Iowa. After setting up tents, packing coolers, and socializing, it was nine o'clock and our bus (an old, raggedy, yellow banana) arrived to take us to Appleby Canoe Rental. We loaded the fifteen coolers on the bus and then we all piled in. The bus trip is what most would probably refer to as out of control. Never in my life would I imagine drinking on a school bus, but I guess some crazy things do happen. Everyone was chanting and cheering

Upon our arrival at Appleby we unloaded the bus and headed up to the main office, where we would sign our lives away. Everyone then grabbed their tube and life jacket and headed down to where we would put the tubes in. While standing on the rocky shore, three of us decided to tie our tubes together that way we wouldn't drift away and also we would have easy access to a cooler. That didn't work out like we planned. After realizing that all thirty of us were somehow linked together, we had to think of a strategy to get everyone in the water. After pondering for about ten minutes we finally got our tubes in the water and our journey began.

Throughout the story, the author uses idealistic idea such as living vicariously, music playing in tone per mood, and having self-confident to reveal and to develop how human imagination can be extended in a person. Living vicariously is an example of how human imagination; this is shown when how Miss Brill is not living for any purpose but to live for others. Her living style has nothing valuable to her but to live under what others are going through in their life. She goes to the park everyday to pretend as if she is living and part of this society, yet no one cares for her. Miss Brill and her imagination have made her to believe that how wonderful the world is for her, but only within her mind. She also believes that how the band is playing the music just for her. When the band is to play a sad song, her emotion began to feel sad. This shows how she relies all her emotion into the music that is played by a band in a park. She also has no confidence in herself towards this world, but only imagination. An example would be how she tells herself that she is perfectly happy, but would if so, why would she get so mad easily when the teenagers ridiculed her at the end of the story? Because she is insecure of her imagination; her thinking and the real world are different. She thinks that what she sees and hear are what the real world she is living in, but the truth is that she has been living inside of her own imagination. Her imagination has surrounded her and blocked her view to the real meaning behind the imagination; therefore she can not escape from the trap. Art study essay

An artwork can express the artists interests in the world, but it can also express he/her interests from within. An example of the interests within can come from expressionism, because its about expressing and sharing the feels from the subject him/her self. The Scream is a fine example of expressionism. An example of the artists interests in the world may be from the cubism movement, because it developed from the impressionism movement which was formed from the technologies developed in the world during the war time. Les Demoiselles DAvignon or the Prostitutes is a great example of cubism.

The Scream, by the famous German artist Edvard Munch was painted in the 0th century. The Scream looks like a person holding his/her face screaming in pain. It could be a metaphor for his inner emotions. This figure is often said to represent his dead mother or Munch himself. Theres also a bridge behind the figure, which could symbolise a journey or path about his life. And on the back ground theres great big rough brush strokes to express and share his inner feels (this is a main feature in expression). These brush strokes are like directional a line, which develop & flows through the work, this also directs the audience into the pain & suffering. The reason for all this depressive tones is because Munch was try to express & show his inner feels of pain from having lost his mother & sister in early stages of his life.

There are other examples that demonstrate the artists interests like Andy Walhole (sorry). The pop artist that created his works by usin repetition such as the Campell soup.

English

DR. Faulkenburg

"Narrow minds think nothing right that is beyond their own capacity"

1. The essence of this quote is that a mind can think of great ideas; but if we limited our mind to our own capacity, then we will have a certain limit or view on our own thinking.

. In other words we have to open are minds to creative thinking. The thought process in a mind will be limited to us if we shut our pathway of thinking. A mind is a free sprint on its way to a beautiful road, all we have to do is focus on what is a head of us and grab it and use it in our lives more not less.

. For example if Martin Luther King did not say "I Had Dream" then today the world as we know it might be a little different I suppose. I even couldn't imagine what living in these days would have in store for me. Dr King as we all know did not have a narrow mind, he open his mind to numerous thoughts and ideas of blacks and whites coming together as one nation without any violence among them. Dr. King "dream" came true after he died, and now looks at society it has got better than ever but we can still improve.

4. To give you a metaphor (or analogy) so you can better understand what I am saying is that many people have narrow minds and that their choice but with a narrow mind comes a narrow way of thinking and you are only hurting your self in the process. An open mind takes in opportunity to understand what is happening around them to receive a better way of thinking, to open their minds to honest criticism and use it to better their minds in the future
