For example, in the story "Mariana" there is a "secret panel" attached to a house which has an "on/off" switch to everything. At the beginning of the story, Mariana, the main character, didn't know how to use anything technological within her house, but as soon as she encountered this device, she got carried away and basically dissipated everything that was surrounding her. Also as the story progressed, the objects that Mariana chose to turn "off" became more severe, starting from pine trees to people. This shows that technology can definitely be a dangerous thing to obtain. In "I Always Do What Teddy Says," there exists the same theme. The main character, David, was taught how to be morally sound through the use of a robotic teddy bear during his childhood. However his father and other contemporaries tampered with the bear that was assigned to David so that he would learn that killing a person was neither ethical nor unethical. The story's ending shows that the ability for David to murder overwhelmed him as he shot his father and his contemporaries with a "gun." However, if the society in which David lived in was not attached to these "teddy bears" to teach morals to children, David would not have been overwhelmed with that ability which brought a slaughter of many men even if these men had the intention of plotting a murder of someone else. Technology can be of great importance in a society, but it can bear problems within it as well.
