H.G. Wells was an author of many books. He is probably most known for War of the Worlds and starting the genre of science-fiction. His writings were of fiction and non-fiction. He wrote of topics such as science, history, politics, and literature. War of the Worlds was one of his most well known novels especially after the U.S. went into panic when it was broadcasted over radio. "The Door in the Wall" was a famous short story of his which seemed to be quite eerie and somewhat confusing. Both of these books have similarities and difference between each other. But one holds more than the other. In my perspective they hold more difference than similarities.

There are a few similarities in "The Door in the Wall" and War of the Worlds that can be picked out. The most obvious is of course that they were both written by the same author, H.G. Wells. Both of these books are of the science-fiction genre. On a smaller scale they also hold something that deals with politics. In War of the Worlds, it deals with the societies going into a panic in the different countries. The media is also exposing to the public what is happening everywhere and guiding them on what to do over the radio. While "The Door in the Wall" deals with a single politicians feelings. So they both have somewhat of a political reference. What is noticed the most is that the main characters in each of the stories are running from their problems. Wallace kept trying to avoid the green door while Pierson had to keep hiding from the Martians. These being the only noticeable similarities, I feel there are much more differences between the two.

"The Door in the Wall" and War of the Worlds have many difference. War of the Worlds had a scary and panicky feeling to it while the other was more mysterious and eerie. War of the Worlds had broader problems such as society running from the Martians and not finding a way to defeat them, it was a story of Man vs. Man. "The Door in the Wall" had the conflict of the characters mind, in which it was Man vs. Self. Their themes also differed from each other. War of the Worlds seem to point out that one should expect the unexpected. This theme or moral of the story came in when the people found out that the only thing that was needed to kill the Martians was for germs to get into them. The theme or moral of "The Door in the Wall" is that things aren't always the way they appear. This was because the door in the wall always seemed to be a utopia for Wallace because of his earlier experience, but when he finally went into it for the last time, it ended up causing him to die. The setting was also different. One stories setting was in England, and the others setting was in New Jersey. Both stories endings gave different emotions to the readers, one had a confusing, if not sad, ending ( "The Door in the Wall" ) while the other seemed have a good and happy ending ( War of the Worlds ). The last difference would have to be their popularity. War of the Worlds became far more popular than "The Door in the Wall", which could have been because War of the Worlds was considered the first sci-fi novel, not to mention the broadcasting of it caused a huge panic in the U.S.

From my aspects, their differences were stronger than their similarities. The things that they shared in common the most was the fact that they were both science-fiction stories and that they were written by the same author. The differences were clearly shown through each story's conflicts, themes, settings, and resolutions.
